DAY ???
I worked today...for money. Second shift in the ER in 2 days. (that means rising around 5:30 to be at work on time!) The kids are in Bama still with my folks and I miss them like crazy! My rising early challenge is on hold-or is it? I spent the weekend in Montgomery discipling 8 12-grade girls. FUN. exhausting. couldn't rise early. stayed up way too late. God was still glorified and lifted up. whew.
In a manner of my own and very familiar, I was thinking tonight...I have really enjoyed blogging to your gals-for those of you who are actually reading this. Maybe I will just keep blogging-its therapeutic for me. I could just drop rising early...haven't we done that enough? God said NO. I was born with an annoying and horrible trait-"Love of change". I phrase it that way because its better than saying that I have a hard time following through sometimes! But, I won't stop. Not until I meet my goal: 28 days of rising early. There-its out there now. I feel better knowing I may be held accountable :P
Seriously, can't wait to see your ladies in the morning. You FILL my cup
thought this blog might be more fun to read if there was a picture. this was the first one I found. Evie at 14 months and my little cute nephew Alexander...funny because it reminds me of my "love for change"-not running now

DAY 9-Change up
I also hit up the coffee shop again this afternoon and it was really nice to sit alone, with God.
As I was preparing one of my lessons tonight, God reminded me just how much he loves us and desires to be with us...just as he wants our hearts to long for him, he longs for you!
I will miss you girls tomorrow morning at MOCHA. Thank you for blessing my life...if you are reading this, thanks, hope you are encouraged...are you out there??? If not, I love you anyway. And, I am praying for you. Really praying.
KNOW HIM!!!
off to bed now....ahhhhhh

seclusion...
I am writing you all from a small coffee shop in my hometown of Enterprise, Alabama. I can here to get away for a bit...to focus on God, to be alone with him, to prepare for this weekend as I will lead several teenage girls for 3 days. I packed up the laptop, bible, books, etc and headed over here. Its nice-to be alone (well, at least free of needy toddlers for a few). However, as I sit trying to read my daily bookmarks, it is so hard for me to push out the world and really focus on Christ.
I hear the radio playing...Christian music, but still, I find myself singing along-in my head, of course--they'd throw me out for sure if I started belting out Leeland! People are coming in and out, coffee grinding, cars on the road outside...all this distracts me. I could facebook for 2 hours, read others blogs, shop online. But, hearing from the holy spirit requires more quiet. Why? I really want to meet with God, to be alone, so why can't I quiet the world?
There is a GREAT "must-read", The Jesus Habits:Exercising the Spiritual Disciplines of Jesus. The first habit Jay Dennis (the author) talks about is SECLUSION. NO surprise that Jesus went AWAY. AWAY from NOISE. What noise is there in your life? It may be very apparent. It may not. Pray about it. What tries to sneak in on your time with him??
I did sleep in this morning. I'm at my mom's. That's the point here :()
I pray you each continually seek him. All day. Every day.
good quote to chew on for a bit:
"The great danger is not that we will renounce our faith. It is that we will become so rushed and preoccupied that we will settle for a mediocre version of it." -John Ortberg
OH how I pray that you experience ALL God has for you-its more than we can imagine. Run after him!!

NO Condemnation!
Yesterday morning I didn't get out of bed until B woke up around 7:30. I just couldn't pull myself out. As I was thinking about what I DIDN'T do, I heard God repeating "there is no condemnation" over and over in my heart.
Found this on a commentary about condemnation and Romans 8:1:
"No condemnation (judgment)" (v.1). Not one bit of condemnation! Compare also John 3:18; 5:24 and 1 Cor. 11:32. The word "condemnation" literally means "judgment coming down (on someone)." God’s judgment is not going to come down upon me! Why not? See Romans 7:24; 8:2 -- I have been delivered and set free from the law of sin and death. If I were still under the law of sin and death then I would be under God’s condemnation (sin demands judgment, death and condemnation -- the penalty for sin must be paid!). But, praise God, Calvary took care of it all. God condemned His Son (Rom.8:3) so that I might never be condemned (Rom.8:1)! God’s judgment came down upon His only begotten Son so that His judgment would not need to come down upon me! I am not condemned; rather I AM JUSTIFIED! Keep in mind the teaching of the last part of Romans 5. IN ADAM I am condemned, but IN CHRIST I am justified.
This is not only our eternal condemnation, but we are free EVERY DAY to live our life abundantly and without the feeling of judgment on ourselves for every moment we fall short. Thank God for his amazing grace and patience as we journey along.
Many times we find ourselves in the same place...again! I slept in til 7:30 again this morning...only to be awakened by little B. I had a horrible night's sleep and Evie even crawled into bed with me and kept me awake for about an hour around 2:30. I needed sleep. But the lack of rising early didn't take away my deep desire to be with my Lord.
Praying each of you continues to seek our GREAT GOD and pursue him with your whole heart!

I definitely should go back to posting in the morning...my mind is much sharper!
Zach goes in late on Wednesdays, so around 6:40, we both dragged ourselves out of bed. B woke up early so I read about one verse before I grabbed him out of his crib before he woke E up. You know, if my kids had their OWN rooms, I would totally let him hang out for a bit in the mornings...ahhh...ok. back to reality!
Zach kept him downstairs for about 20 minutes while I finished my QT upstairs...in bed...BAD IDEA! I was really tired. Would have been better off at the kitchen table!
I was very productive around the house-thanking God for energy and desire to do that!
this one's short!
be encouraged. love you guys!

I am posting rather late today...been a long one. Had gymnastics this morning and one of my best friend's welcomed her sweet baby into the world (2 weeks early!!!) so I got to visit---ohh the sweetness of a newborn!
I meant to set my alarm this morning to be up at 6:30. But as I climbed into bed last night, I was too lazy to reach over my snoozing husband to do it. I did learn an important lesson-be prepared. Zach kissed me goodbye around 6:40 and I laid there hugging my pillow for a few more minutes.
I did manage to drag myself out of bed before 7 and spend some tender moments with the Lord (about 20 minutes). Then, I closed my eyes and quickly dozed back off in the living room, only to be awakened a couple of minutes later by little B, AKA "Rooster Boy".
I have committed to read through the bookmarks instead of using a devotion book. God's word is sooo relevant to our lives TODAY and God can speak weather we are reading in Numbers or Psalms! (thank you Terri Straughn for encouraging me in this!)
This morning as I read Psalm 16, each word took on a new meaning...such sweetness it is to KNOW our God! I challenge each of you to read through the bookmarks (I do them online. go to www.thefamilychurch.net and link to them at the bottom of the page.).
God is continuing to reveal moments in the bible when folks "rose early" to complete a task, prepare for their day, or simply be near to God. I really believe there is such blessing in doing so. For some, rising early may be a specific time...for others, like me, the best I have right now in my busy and exhausting life is simply to be awake 30 minutes before my kids wake up! We each have specific goals-just set one!
I am praying for EACH of you, that you will be steadfast, fall more in love with Jesus and KNOW him, really KNOW him during your time with him each morning.
who knows, I may learn to love being a rooster too!

When you feel the prompting of God to say, oh, spend a little extra time with him at night before bed...you might want to be obedient!
Last night after Zach and I talked and prayed, I stayed downstairs. Took a little extra time to spend focusing on some verses and just listening to God. As I got into bed around 11:30, my acid reflux was acting up--(my fault-gave in and had sweet tea for dinner...CAFFEINE=BAD). So I tossed and turned and dozed a little...then...
Heard retching coming from the other room! NO!!! Beckett was puking all over the place. After one bath, a change of clothes, we were back in bed. At this point, it was 2:20. I prayed God would allow him to rest and fall asleep. He laid right down. I did however break 2 cardinal rules of mothering:
1. As a nurse, I should know better. Don't give your toddler fluids for the first hour of vomiting...it WILL come back up...and don't give Emetrol either!!!!!
2. NEVER, I repeat, NEVER bring a puking toddler back to YOUR bed!
So, 10 minutes later, we were back in the bathtub rinsing off...2 more towels saturated!
I moved our party downstairs and sat awake for 2 more episodes and 2 more hours!
I ended up sleeping on Evie's bed and moved her in with Zach. No more puking-THANK YOU GOD!
All this to say, I did NOT rise early! But God did use his word to encourage me through the night and I was so grateful that I had spent a little extra time with him before bed-he knew I would need it!
Love you ladies and praying for you this morning as you raise up little blessings!
Friday, January 29, 2010
Actually, this is day 4 or something. I have been getting up early this week several days. It occurred to me last night (after Zach read the blog) that I hadn't officially offered up a "challenge". So here it is: RISE EARLY before your kids wake up, be ready for the day and spend QUIET time alone with God-practice hearing the Holy Spirit...all this for 28 days and see how God will bless you!
This morning, the alarm went off at 6...but I couldn't drag myself out of the comfort of my warm sheets until 6:30 (the snooze button was made for folks like me!) I did have to scoop a 3-year-old up off the floor and lay her sleeping limp body back in my bed. She decided to come hang out with us around 3:15 this morning and kept me up until about 4:30 tossing and turning, "I need water", etc!!! That was after Beckett woke up crying just after midnight (twice!)
After I brushed my teeth, put my eyes in and got some makeup on my face, I was sitting in my cozy chair downstairs by 6:55. I did spend some sweet time with Jesus. I was reading the bookmark reading from The Family Church and "happened" to notice that TWICE in my readings someone "rose early" to complete a certain task.
My little rooster crowed right at 7:15, so my time was cut a little early this morning. But, I was able to greet him with a smile and we even read a book for a few minutes in the rocking chair.
Forget which day, but one morning this week, as I was laying in bed dreading making the first step out, I thought, "this is just too comfortable, my warm bed, ahhhh" and I heard God say...DO YOU WANT TO BE COMFORTABLE or DO YOU WANT TO KNOW ME?! I jumped up.
Also want to share what I pray every morning that I do get up. I pray that God will let my children enjoy their rest...that as I rise in obedience, God would be FAITHFUL to bless it by allowing me time ALONE with him. I'm not sure he will always keep them sleeping, but I know he CAN and its my job to obey and trust his ability!
Well, its 8:10-my night owl is still snoozing and B and I are watching Thomas the Train.
May your day be blessed with PURPOSE. I am praying for each of you!
see you on Day 2...

31:15 Challenge
I made futile attempts at this over and over...(before my head enlarges much beyond its normal size, please know I did this in my own power-believing it was something I HAD to do to. I was not always doing it with a heart of obedience!)
I would often say to my husband, "I should try for just one week to get up and ready before the kids. I think that would make things run so much smoother for me!" So, here I am AGAIN (I often find myself "here again", you ladies feelin' me????)
As Pastor Max was speaking this past Sunday, he brought up Mark 1:35 "Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed."...I thought, THANKS, JESUS! If he thought it important to rise early to be with God, and I want my life to be more and more like him, shouldn't I follow in his literal footsteps?
Please feel free to leave comments!!
Most importantly, I believe that rising early is more so an attitude, purpose and thoughtful time with God...not specifically a time of day!
I love you ladies and am more than blessed by your friendships!! Thanks for keeping me accountable!
see you tomorrow...DAY 1!
